Different types of tube readers
NBS Scientific offers multiple ways to read and manage your samples. We supply high-speed tube readers for barcode scanning and decoding in less than one second. In addition, we offer advanced rack scanners capable of quickly reading and interpreting 2D codes on the bottom of tubes, allowing you to scan up to 96 tubes simultaneously. Our range also includes tube readers that automatically upload data directly into a LIMS or Excel file. Even when working with frozen samples, you can rely on accurate read-outs. The Micronic Rack Reader DR710, featuring a ‘deep focus’ image sensor and a unique anti-frost system, always provides a clear view of your samples.
Which codes can our scanners read?
Our code scanners are designed for fast and reliable identification of laboratory samples and support a wide range of 1D and 2D codes. This makes them suitable for diverse workflows, from manual sample handling to fully automated systems.
1D codes (linear barcodes)
1D codes consist of horizontal lines with varying widths and are commonly used for racks, boxes, and logistical identification. Our scanners easily read widely used 1D codes such as Code 128 and Code 39, whether printed on labels or directly engraved on labware.
2D codes (Data Matrix)
2D codes store information both horizontally and vertically, offering much higher data density. In laboratories, Data Matrix codes are most commonly used for individual tubes. Our scanners read 2D codes quickly and accurately, even when the codes are very small, laser-etched, or scanned under cold or humid conditions.
With support for both single-tube scanning and full rack scanning, codes can be read in a single action and immediately linked to LIMS and database systems. This ensures complete traceability, reduces manual errors, and increases efficiency at every stage of sample management.
